Welcome!

The Porch Club of Riverton is a member of the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs. Founded in 1890, it is now one of the oldest in New Jersey. Eight young women originally met on porches as a reading circle each week. They were soon joined by others and in 1895 they formally organized. Through the Porch Club, Burlington County’s first Kindergarten in a public school was opened and the first woman was elected to a Board of Education. In October 1900, the State Congress of Mothers (now known as the PTA) was formed through their efforts in Riverton.
